Lesley White: Landscapes
Café Balcony, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery 7 August to 4 November 2007
Lesley White: Landscapes is a new display
at Brighton Museum of paintings that express the spaciousness,
mystery and comfort that nature provides. The artist uses landscape
to explore colour, light, tone and form.
Grouped in patterns of four, the images create the impact of a
larger painting, while enabling each canvas to retain its own
significance.
Lesley White says “My paintings explore
themes including the transient effects of light and rhythms in
tone. Many kinds of art intrigue me, but particularly Indian Mughal
miniatures and Chinese hand scrolls – art that by its very
size and ‘hand held’ nature, demands an intimate audience.
I have become more and more engaged by Buddhist philosophy, and
my works are increasingly concerned with development of calm,
meditative spaces and the concepts of transience and emptiness”.
Lesley has lived in Sussex for 12 years and
is constantly striving to express some of the beauty of its ever-changing
landscapes.
Lesley White: Landscapes continues
at Brighton Museum until 4 November 2007. Admission is free.
